over the State Department’s statements over Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest, India has summoned a US envoy

India formally protested the comments made by a US State Department official on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday, calling a top US ambassador to India.

Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Gloria Berbena was called to the Ministry of External Affairs’ South Bloc office by authorities from the ministry. The meeting went on for more than half an hour.

There were rumours that a representative from the US State Department said that Washington “encouraged a fair, transparent, and timely legal process for Chief Minister Kejriwal.”.

Kejriwal was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money-laundering case involving the excise policy’s scam.

The issue concerns suspected money-laundering and corruption during the development and implementation of the excise policy for 2021–2022 by the Delhi government, which was subsequently abandoned.
