Telangana hosts a protest against artificial fruit ripening on seven occasions

GHMC food safety officials and Task Force investigators raided fruit stands and warehouses, finding that many sellers were employing dangerous chemicals to artificially ripen mangoes.

Task Force DCP Rashmi Perumal told the reporters on Wednesday that raids were carried out in all seven zones on the basis of reliable information. According to the DCP, there were five cases against seven individuals filed at five police stations.

She said that mangoes are artificially ripened using two different kinds of chemicals: carbide and ethylene. She said, “Eating such mangoes can pose serious health risks.” Twelve godowns that were artificially ripening mangoes were found as a result of the searches.

In addition to causing neurological problems, ripening of artificially ripened mangoes is against FSSAI regulations and may irritate the skin and lungs.

In addition to 26 mango trays, 3,860 kg of mangoes were taken from seven offenders. Ethylene sachets and carbide powder were also taken by the cops. The products that were seized have a combined value above Rs 12.61 lakh.

There were cases filed at the police stations at Habeeb Nagar, Sultan Bazaar, Afzal Gunj, Chaderghat, and Bhavani Nagar. Utilizing such substances may result in neurological disorders and heavy metal toxicity.
