Parties hesitate to choose candidates for Ferozepur, opting instead to wait and observe

As the declaration of the distribution of tickets by the big political parties in Ferozepur continues, enormous anxiety looms. There has been agitation among ticket applicants and party personnel as a result of the Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal, Aam Aadmi Party, and Bharatiya Janata Party failing to release their cards about the selection of candidates for this “halqa.” According to sources, these parties may have been waiting for their competitors to make a mistake before changing their tactics and selecting their candidates.

This constituency has been an Akali fortress for the last almost thirty years, as SAD candidates have won this seat consistently since 1998. Though there have been many rumors about SAD head and current MP Sukhbir Singh Badal’s decision not to run this time, the party is still looking for the ideal candidate. SAD is being careful to ensure that the party maintains its winning streak from this seat, but it won’t be an easy ride this time around, particularly after cutting connections with the BJP.

Nonetheless, there are two opposing camps within Congress over its nominee. According to party sources, the decision had to be made either on the old caste system or with a new face. Since several of its top party leaders—many of whom identify as “taksaalis”—are vying for the ticket, even the AAP is finding it very difficult to decide on a candidate. Though two of its top party officials are fighting for the nomination, the BJP is also searching for a turncoat to establish its account here.

As of as present, only SAD (A) and BSP have declared their candidacies. The BSP has nominated Surinder Kamboj, the father of AAP MLA Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy, while SAD (A) has selected retired Punjab Police Inspector Bhupinder Singh Bhullar, the father of murdered criminal Jaipal Singh, as the party’s candidate.

“It is regrettable that none of the major parties have been able to choose a candidate for this seat, which has been overlooked up until now. A local social worker named Ranjan Sharma said, “With the exception of the PGI Satellite Center, no significant initiative has been established here during the last three administrations.

Sukhbir Badal may not run from the bulwark of Akali.

This constituency has been an Akali stronghold for the last almost thirty years because Shiromani Akali Dal candidates have won this seat consistently since 1998.
But with Shiromani Akali Dal head and current MP Sukhbir Singh Badal allegedly choosing not to run this time, there has been much conjecture about his potential successor.

Because so many of its top party leaders—many of whom identify as “taksaalis”—are vying for the ticket, even the Aam Aadmi Party is finding it difficult to choose a candidate.
Although two of its top party officials are competing for the nomination, the Bharatiya Janata Party is also seeking a turncoat to begin its account here.
