PAU NOTES: Varsity strives to use beekeeping to empower adolescents

A lecture was presented at Punjab Agricultural University’s (PAU) School of Business Studies (SBS) in an effort to empower rural youth and promote entrepreneurship. Ferozepur, a premier agricultural research and extension center dedicated to strengthening farmers and rural communities via cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices, hosted the event on behalf of PAU’s Farm Advisory Service Center.

The purpose of the event was to draw attention to the important role beekeeping may play in promoting economic development and sustainable living in rural regions.

The presentation was attended by a group of twenty trainees, including young people from rural areas, who were accompanied by Dr. Gurpreet Singh Makkar, Senior Extension Scientist and Training Coordinator of FASC Ferozepur.

Director of SBS Dr. Ramandeep Singh captivated the audience with his insightful talk on the vital role that rural youth play in spearheading entrepreneurial initiatives that provide employment possibilities.

With a scientific approach, Dr. Singh discussed the often disregarded connection between beekeeping and marketing, stressing the need of concentrating on the four main components of marketing: product, position, price, and promotion.

In order to properly promote honey and items derived from it, he emphasized the need of broadening one’s marketing strategies and creating fresh approaches. Additionally, he emphasized how important packaging, branding, and labeling are to raising the visibility and marketability of honey-based products.

Dr. Singh explained the relevance of using an agribusiness-oriented approach to turn conventional agricultural processes into viable ventures by drawing comparisons between agriculture and agribusiness. He cleverly discussed the many challenges that entrepreneurs may encounter and offered helpful advice for getting beyond them.
