PM Modi abruptly departs for Bhutan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for Thimphu on Friday morning, delaying his scheduled visit to Bhutan until March 21.

The Prime Minister’s official account had an X post, which was the sole clue regarding his abrupt shift.

“On my way to Bhutan, where I’ll be participating in a number of events meant to strengthen the relationship between India and Bhutan,. The PM wrote, “I’m excited to speak with His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, the King of Bhutan, and the Prime Minister.

The weather has caused Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day official visit to Bhutan, scheduled to begin on Thursday, to be rescheduled, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Wednesday. With Bhutan prepared for his visit, Prime Minister Modi was expected to land in Thimphu on March 21 and depart the following day.

While Bhutan’s prime minister, Tshering Tobgay, was in India last week, the visit was announced. It would have happened within four days of the PM of Bhutan’s departure, which is not common in diplomatic relations.

The MEA said, “The two sides are negotiating new dates through diplomatic channels.” The cancellation of a planned press conference on the trip by Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra in the evening gave rise to suspicions that it would not happen.

The website AccuWeather predicts that Thimphu will have heavy cloud cover on Thursday, along with isolated afternoon showers. It’s going to be a cool Friday with a lot of cloud cover and possible afternoon showers.

The Indian government’s focus on its Neighbourhood First Policy and the custom of frequent high-level contacts between the two countries were both respected by the visit, according to the administration.
