President Murmu receives a report on One Nation, One Election from a commission headed by Ram Nath Kovind

President Droupadi Murmu received the report on “One Nation, One Election” from the high-level committee, led by former President Ram Nath Kovind, on Thursday at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister and panel member, was also in attendance.

The study, which is 18,626 pages long and was produced over the course of 191 days, including comprehensive talks with experts, stakeholders, and research, according to ANI.

In addition, the committee has suggested that electoral picture identification cards (EPIC) and a consolidated electoral register be used for elections at all governmental levels.

The other members of the Kovind-led panel are Home Minister Amit Shah, former Rajya Sabha opposition leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, former chairman of the finance commission N K Singh, former secretary general of the Lok Sabha Subhash Kashyap, and senior attorney Harish Salve.

The idea of “One Nation, One Election” calls for conducting polls simultaneously throughout the nation. Elections for the Lok Sabha and all state legislatures are to be held simultaneously, according to the plan.

When the current administration in India ends its term or is dissolved for any reason, separate elections are conducted to elect the members of the state assemblies and the Lok Sabha.

For a considerable amount of time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been promoting the concept of One Nation, One Election.
