Punjab’s former chief minister Charanjit Channi says he received a ransom demand of Rs 2 crore

On Thursday, former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi said that some time ago, he got a text message demanding money from an unknown number.

“A month or so ago, I received a message demanding a ransom of Rs 2 crore, even though security equipment was provided to me in my capacity as CM.” He added, “I had sent the message to the DGP, but I still didn’t hear back.”

Speaking about the status of law and order, Channi said that demanding ransom had become commonplace. “After receiving the SMS, I refrained from approaching the media. However, a Morinda councillor informed me today that he had got a call requesting a ransom of Rs 50 lakh. The family is stunned right now. The former CM expressed her anguish by sharing the text message she had also received.

He alleged that the sender of the text message identified themselves as part of the Goldy Brar gang and threatened to harm Sidhu Moosewala in the same way.
