Rajiv Kumar, the chief electoral commissioner, receives ‘Z’ category CRPF security cover: References

In light of possible security risks against him, the Center has given Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar nationwide ‘Z’ category CRPF security protection, according to the sources on Tuesday.

The Chief Election Commissioner is the most important person during the election season since he travels and attends several meetings to guarantee free and fair elections for the four states’ assemblies and the Lok Sabha. Amidst many attempts by anti-India groups to influence the elections, the central government stepped up security measures to ensure the safety of the elected officials.

In a related incident, official sources said that the Union government offered Madhavi Latha, the BJP candidate for Lok Sabha from Hyderabad, VIP security cover for armed commandos due to possible security threats against her.

During her travels and stays in Telangana, the 49-year-old lawmaker has been provided with mid-level ‘Y plus’ category mobile security protection.

The responsibility has been assigned to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) VIP protection arm by the Union home ministry, according to the sources.

In the general elections on May 13, Latha, a businesswoman and classical dancer, will challenge Asaduddin Owaisi, the head of the AIMIM and current MP for Hyderabad, in his home district.
