Regarding Chinese President Xi’s absence at the G20 virtual summit, EAM Jaishankar said, “It is up to a country to determine who represents them”

Foreign Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that the nation should choose who represents them on Wednesday, since Chinese President Xi Jinping did not attend the virtual G20 Summit.

According to Jaishankar, Prime Minister Li Qiang also represented China in September at the nation’s capital for the G20 Summit.

At the G20 concluding press conference on Wednesday, Jaihshankar said, “It’s for a country to decide who represents them. Prime Minister Li Qiang had represented them at the G20 New Delhi Summit as well, so they chose to continue with that.”

The EAM went on to say that India’s G20 leadership was focused on the global south and that it has placed development back at the forefront of the organization.

“I think that everyone would have recognized today that India’s G20 presidency was centered around the global south and that it had restored development to its rightful place at the center of the G20,” he said. I believe that this was a pretty broadly held opinion among international organizations as well as the G20 members.

He said that the G20 members applauded the consensus established on important matters, such as the hostage release, the delivery of supplies to Gaza, and the brief cessation of hostilities. The leaders expressed a great desire to see the agreements made earlier carried out.

“The consensus reached regarding the hostage release, the supply of aid to Gaza, and a brief cessation of hostilities is generally welcomed by G20 members.”

The External Affairs Minister said, “There was a strong sentiment expressed by the leaders to ensure implementation of the commitments that were agreed to overall.”

Amitabh Kant, India’s G20 representative, Union Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman, and MEA spokeswoman Arindam Bagchi also spoke at the news conference.

Sitharaman said, “Everyone of the five main agenda points which had been discussed over the year had been reiterated,” highlighting the difficulties pertaining to the G20 financial track. They were accepted. The financing of future cities, digital public infrastructure, climate finance, the roadmap for crypto assets, and MDB changes. There was a strong desire to go on with all of these priorities during the next presidency, as shown by the Delhi Declaration.

“A number of MDBs are already looking at the possibility of working together in fields like innovative finance. The report of the international expert panel has been well received. The boards are taking it up for each of the banks, and many components of it are already put in motion,” she said.

G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant, however, emphasized that Brazil is already pursuing many of the initiatives that India formerly spearheaded.

“We had 22 heads of state and all heads of international organizations participating in it today,” he said. Consequently, the virtual conference drew a sizable audience. Second, because the G20 operates continuously, we have been concentrating on implementation since September 9 and 10.

Numerous initiatives have been put into action on a national level, and we continue to advocate for their adoption. Brazil is leading the way in some of the initiatives we have undertaken. Building a just world and a sustainable future is Brazil’s theme. Additionally, he said, “We will work to implement the majority of what we announced in the New Delhi Leaders Declaration during Brazil’s presidency.”

PM Modi served as chairman of the virtual G20 Summit. September 9 and 10, in New Delhi, was the site of the 18th G20 Leaders’ Summit.

The G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration was unanimously adopted at that time, demonstrating the leaders’ commitment to addressing global issues in a way that is inclusive, decisive, and action-oriented.
