Scooter market: Vendors wait for the rubbish to be removed

The shopkeepers of Scooter Market are still waiting for the removal of the garbage dump next to their stores and the installation of a waste compactor system at a nearby site, despite the Municipal Corporation having installed waste compactors at some locations in the city as part of the Smart City Mission.

A few years before, the MC had built a shed in the adjacent Bhai Chattar Singh Park in order to install a static trash compactor system and remove the Scooter Market’s rubbish dump. Unfortunately, no compactor has yet been constructed at the location, therefore, a significant quantity of rubbish is still being thrown on the road next to the market’s stores and under the flyover.

The store owners also drew attention to the dilapidated state of the public restrooms built under the market’s overpass. They have also complained to the MC about the dirty circumstances brought on by the open dump in the market and the state of the restrooms. But the MC hasn’t responded to their concerns with any real action yet.

The unattended trash dump and the deteriorated state of the public restrooms in the market are two significant concerns that the Scooter Sellers’ Association has long been bringing up, but the local body has not yet responded.

We just sent a letter to the MC asking for the market’s public restrooms to be renovated. The public cannot utilize them because of their terrible state. In addition, our long-standing request to have the dump removed from the market has not yet been fulfilled,” he said.

An executive engineer employed by the company promised to investigate.
