Shivraj Slams Digvijaya for “Nautanki” Jibe Following “Kanya Pujan” Ritual in MP Elections

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, retaliated against Congressman Digvijaya Singh on Tuesday for calling him a “dramatist” after he carried out the ‘kanya pujan’ ceremony as part of the Navratri celebration.

The chief minister also requested clarification from the Congress leadership over its position on the practice known as “Sanatan sanskar”—worshipping females as goddesses—which is a custom observed throughout most of the nation on Navmi, or the ninth day of Navratri.

At his official house on Monday, Chouhan and his wife carried out the practice, which entails washing the feet of young girls.

“This hurts.” Yesterday, the whole nation was doing Sanatan sanskar, which involves worshipping daughters. Digvijaya Singh: You refer to it as natak-nautanki. When asked about his comment, Chouhan addressed the press, “This is your sanskar Digvijaya Singh.”

Singh said the chief minister is a “big dramatist” who talks falsehoods after Chouhan completed the ceremony.

“Only those who have experienced complete pain may adore daughters and sisters. I have a question for Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge. Is adoring daughters considered natak-nautanki? What is Congress’ position?Digvijay Singhji, you have descended so low that you oppose the worship of daughters in addition to Shivraj Singh and Sanatan Dharma, Chouhan said.

On November 17, Madhya Pradesh will have a single-phase election.
