The chief minister of Andhra Pradesh opens five new government medical colleges

On Friday, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, opened five new government medical institutions around the state.The chief minister virtually opened the other four medical colleges, which are situated in Rajamahendravaram, Eluru, Machilipatnam, and Nandyala, after physically opening the Vizianagaram Medical College.

Speaking to medical students and professors, Reddy said that the new medical schools would enhance public health systems and assist to strengthen tertiary and curative medical treatment.

People have high expectations for physicians, therefore he counseled the students to practice medicine well and help the underprivileged. The chief minister said that the government has invested up to Rs 2.35 lakh crore in Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) welfare programs for the poor, and he urged physicians to support the impoverished with a similar dedication.

The newly opened schools have increased the number of MBBS seats in the state by 750, with each one costing an average of Rs 500 crore to build.

Five of the 17 new medical schools that the state has planned, at a cost of Rs 8,480 crore, have started their academic years.

The other seven colleges are anticipated to open after 2024, with five more likely to open in 2024 in Pulivendula, Paderu, Adoni, Markapur, and Madanapalle.

According to M T Krishna Babu, Special Chief Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, qualified students may enroll in the new institutions for only Rs 10,000.
