The government is said to have temporarily blocked over 177 social media accounts and website connections in reaction to the farmers’ protest. The Ministry of

Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) issued these directives on February 14 and 19, according to a news agency report that cited sources. After receiving a request under Section 69A of the IT Act from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the accounts and online URLs were disabled.
The Ministry of Home Affairs ordered the temporary suspension of specific social media accounts and website connections in order to maintain law and order, according to the report.

The central government may make orders to prevent public access to any material via any computer resource, according to Section 69A of the IT Act. In June 2020, the government restricted Chinese websites using the same laws.
