The hockey field’s construction is almost done

The Sports Department’s first AstroTurf hockey field in the city is nearly ready to host international hockey games.

Following a recent ground inspection, Gurugram District Magistrate Nishant Kumar Yadav declared that the AstroTurf installation process was finished. “The ground just needs a few finishing touches, and it will be finished in a few days,” he said.

He stated that the Nehru Stadium in the Civil Lines neighbourhood has an AstroTurf field built at a cost of Rs 7.79 crore. The much-anticipated ground work began on March 14 of last year. According to him, the old ground has been lifted by around two and a half feet to prevent waterlogging of the new grass.

The sports department’s deputy director, Giriraj Yadav, said, “The ground is 91.40 meters long and 55 meters broad. There are six sprinklers installed, each covering a 45–50 meter radius. The dimensions of the goalpost are 2.14 meters high and 3.66 meters broad.

“A water tank has been constructed close to the ground since the AstroTurf field needs constant watering. In addition, the sports official said, “The entire field can be sprayed in seven to ten minutes thanks to the powerful sprinklers.”

There is enough seating planned for between 35 and 40 players. He also mentioned the installation of an iron netting around the ground that is about fifteen feet in length.

Over 150 hockey players used to train on this field a few years ago, but over time, just 80 players remain, according to District Sports Officer Ram Niwas. He expressed his hope that more players will come to train here now that the new grass had been installed.
