Throw Jaishankar out: TNCC prez

Chennai: According to TNCC President K Selvaperunthagai, Union Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar ought to be fired by the President for “divulging secrets of the state after taking the oath of secrecy.” He said that this was against the Constitution. His accusations followed a dispute that raged over the islet of Katchatheevu being given to Sri Lanka in 1974.

On Monday, the head of the TNCC declared that the people of TN “showed hatred towards PM Modi and the BJP.” He said that Jaishankar and Modi were disseminating “baseless slander” against the government because they could not stand the animosity.
According to him, the Sri Lankan Navy has detained 3,179 fishermen and confiscated 400 vessels between 2014 and 2024. He said that since its formation in 2016, the joint action group between the two nations has not met beyond 2020.
He questioned, “Why didn’t the BJP call the meeting of this committee, which was constituted to discuss the problems of the fishermen?” He added that after Modi took office as prime minister in 2014, then attorney general Mukul Rohatgi had indicated, in a hearing on a Katchatheevu issue, that the island, which had been transferred to Sri Lanka in 1974 under the terms of a bilateral agreement, could only be reclaimed by going to war.tnn
