Tomorrow, SSA office workers will demonstrate in Chandigarh

On February 28, workers from the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Office Employees’ Union planned a demonstration against the Chandigarh house of the Punjab Chief Minister.

The decision was made in response to the government’s refusal to comply with their requests after a symbolic three-day lockdown.

Union members reported that nothing had been done to regularize the services of contract workers in the Education Department, even though Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Education Minister Harjot Bains, and the cabinet subcommittee had made the decision to do so.

Workers are upset because, despite a resolution to regularize staff made in cabinet subcommittee meetings on November 22, 2023, and January 31, 2024, the decision has not yet been carried out.

They added that while Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and Cabinet Ministers Aman Arora and Kuldeep Dhaliwal had agreed to regularize the workers during the meeting held at Punjab Bhavan on the specified dates, they had not yet received the instructions or had their pay deductions halted.

The union officials said that as of 2019, the mid-day meal office workers’ compensation increases have ceased. The SSA office staff will stage a demonstration in Chandigarh on February 28 in response to this. They will organize demonstrations during the next campaign rallies and stage dharnas to gherao the Chief Minister and the Cabinet Ministers.

The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Office Employees’ Union leaders Shobhit Bhagat, Gagandeep Sharma, Rajiv Sharma, and Sukhraj released the statement.
