Ben Stokes puts an end to rumors about his ODI retirement by declaring, “I’m going on vacation after the fifth Ashes Test”

Ben Stokes, the captain of the England Test team, has said that he would not defer his ODI retirement for the 2017 World Cup in India. Stokes was a key component of England’s victory in the 2019 ODI World Cup, although he declared his retirement from the 50-over format last year in order to manage his workload. The flamboyant all-rounder, who was widely anticipated to postpone his retirement for the ODI World Cup, also assisted England in winning the T20 World Cup last year with his game-winning innings in the championship match. Stokes has reiterated that he has retired and would take a vacation after the match in the upcoming Ashes series.

I am retired. Stokes was cited by the ICC as stating, “I’m going on vacation after this game [fifth Ashes Test] and that’s all I’m thinking.

Stokes mentioned his long-standing knee problem and said he would contact a doctor to find a solution so he could bowl more overs.

“I want to resolve this issue, of course. There has always been cricket playing when I’ve watched experts and other things like that. We’ve just gotten started because it’s been manageable. But I believe it is a fantastic opportunity to have some serious discussions with medical professionals about what I may be able to do to get a job where I can bowl without having to worry about my knee. We will be able to have such chats during our free time, he continued.

Stokes said that he wants to construct a side that can compete with Australia in the 2025 Test series Down Under even if England was unable to win the Ashes in 2023 due to rain’s interference in Manchester.

“I mean certainly way this series went and how close we were makes you wonder whether we have a better chance in Australia than the last few times we’ve been there. In 2025, it would be fantastic to go to Australia with a decent chance of winning. Being able to claim that I won it twice would be fantastic. Naturally, a lot of cricket is also played in the lead-up to the Ashes, but we’ll simply have to wait until 2025 to find out,” said Stokes.
