Bhavesh Shekhawat, the pistol shooter, apologizes for leaving camp without alerting the National Federation

After apologizing for his disciplinary infraction, a pistol shooter who departed the training camp for the Asia Olympic Qualifiers in December of last year without telling the national federation has been chosen for the trials to choose the team for the Paris Games.

The trials are scheduled for April and May in Delhi and Bhopal, respectively.

Competing in the 25-meter rapid-fire event, Bhavesh Shekhawat departed the camp on December 29 and was not heard from again until January 4 of this year. As a result, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) had to add him back to the team for the Jakarta Olympic qualifiers.

The marksman from Rajasthan has “apologised” for his misbehavior, according to NRAI secretary Rajiv Bhatia, who made this announcement to PTI on Wednesday. This opens the door for him to participate in the trials and make a bid for a spot in the Paris Olympics.

Indeed, he did visit us after departing. We’ve resolved the issue since he apologized and showed up with his father. It was a private affair, according to Bhatia.

“He is a skilled shooter, and we don’t care what’s going on in his personal life. “His father provided the necessary documentation and the issue was settled,” he said, declining to go into the particulars of the problems Shekhawat was facing at the moment.

When asked whether the NRAI’s Athletes’ Commission had been informed of the situation, Bhatia gave a negative response.

“The incident took place at the Karni Singh Ranges during the (national) camp.” He returned and expressed regret. We can’t hang the individual,” he said.

However, he did acknowledge that the gunman ought to have told the federation about the situation that compelled him to evacuate.

“He is there at the Olympic selection trial, yes. The legal system will prosecute him if there is evidence against him. However, even if I deny him today and he gets cleared tomorrow, I have no clue what the matter is that’s still lingering in court.

He reasoned, “Unless, of course, the court says that he should not be allowed to play, I am not concerned with who does what in his personal life.”

According to Bhatia, the organization has already punished the gunman.

“When he vanished from the camp, we sent him a warning and forbade him from competing overseas in one of the contests following the Jakarta tournament. What harsher punishment needs to be meted out to him?” he inquired.

To choose the squad for the Paris Olympics, four trials will take place in Delhi (April 18–27) and Bhopal (May 10–19).
