Dean Elgar recollects his heated encounter with India’s top player, saying, “Virat Kohli spat at me, AB de Villiers Found Out What he Did And…”

Dean Elgar, a former captain of South Africa, has shared the specifics of his first on-field interaction with Virat Kohli, in which the two traded sharp remarks during the 2015 Test series in India.

Elgar alleges that when Kohli “spat” at him, he became furious and directed a South African expletive against the then-India captain.

“Those were joke wickets (during the 2015 trip). When I took the field, I was really able to hold my own against (Ravichandran) Ashwin and the other guy. Jadeja Ravindra. Kohli also kind of spat on me. “If you do that, I’ll ******g ***** you with this bat,” Elgar said, according to The Boys podcast on Banter.

Being South African AB de Villiers’ colleague at the Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL club, Kohli was aware of what Elgar had stated.

Yes, Kohli understood since de Villiers was an RCB colleague of his. Elgar said, “And if you do that, I’ll… on this field, I’ll absolutely knock you out.”

Elgar went on to say that after learning what he had done, De Villiers had a conversation with Kohli. Elgar announced his retirement from international cricket earlier this month, with his last Test series against India coming up.

When De Villiers saw what Kohli had done, he confronted him and said, ‘Why are you spitting at my buddy, bud?’ Can we have a drink at the conclusion of the series, Kohli said when he was playing in South Africa two years later? Elgar stated, “I would like to apologize for what I did.”

Punchline used to drink, and we used to do so till three in the morning. That, to cut a long tale short, was my first time meeting Kohli,” he said.

Despite their unpleasant first encounter, the two subsequently reconciled, with Kohli giving Elgar a hug after his dismissal in the last over of his international career in Cape Town.

Following the game, Kohli gave Elgar an autographed jersey as a souvenir on behalf of the Indian team.
