Despite rumors of a transfer, Bernardo Silva signs a new contract extension with Manchester City

Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva has signed a contract extension with treble-winners Manchester City that would keep him at the club until the summer of 2026, after years of rumors and radio silence from his camp.

The midfielder from Portugal joined City in the summer of 2017 and quickly established himself as an essential member of their starting lineup. In his 308 games to date, Bernardo has triumphed in the Champions League, two FA Cups, four League Cups, two Community Shields, and five Premier League championships.

Silva has scored 55 goals for City, most notably the two opening goals in the 4-0 victory against Real Madrid in the Champions League semifinals that helped the team win the championship the previous year. Silva has also contributed creativity and flair to City’s midfield.

“Manchester City has been an amazing place for me for the last six years, and I’m thrilled to stay longer. The club’s official website quotes Bernardo as saying, “Winning the Treble last season was really special, and it’s great to be part of a group where there is such a desire and enthusiasm.

With success comes an increased desire, and this club provides me the chance to keep winning. I adore the manager, my teammates, and the supporters, and I hope that we may continue to create wonderful experiences together in the years to come.

Silva has “become one of the best players in the world” at City, according to director of football Txiki Begiristain, who also thinks the 29-year-old can help the team succeed even more in the future.

In addition, he said, “Bernardo was so crucial to our treble-winning season and we are certain he can assist us many more titles in the coming years.

In addition to being a member of the Portugal team that won the 2019 UEFA Nations League and earning Player of the Tournament honors, Bernardo has 82 caps for his country.

The interest shown by teams like Barcelona, PSG, and even Saudi sides who were competing to sign the Portuguese to their ranks has been put to rest by his contract renewal.
