Football Transfers: Chelsea Signs RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku To A Six-Year Contract

On Tuesday, Chelsea agreed to a six-year deal with Leipzig for striker Christopher Nkunku of France.

The highly regarded Nkunku was acquired by the London club, who spent over $630 million on personnel last season. His employment will begin on July 1.

The 25-year-old Nkunku said, “A big effort was made to bring me to the club and I am looking forward to meeting my new coach and teammates and showing the Chelsea fans what I can do on the pitch.”

Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, Chelsea’s new owners, had a terrible first season. It finished last in the Premier League in terms of points scored and failed to make it to Europe.

Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter were fired as managers, and club legend Frank Lampard came back in an interim capacity to finish the season. Mauricio Pochettino, a former Tottenham manager, has been hired and given the task of improving Chelsea’s situation.

At Stamford Bridge, Nkunku is anticipated to start off another hectic summer.

In a statement, Chelsea co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley claimed that Christopher had “proved himself one of the standout attacking players in European football over the past two seasons” and that he would “add quality, creativity, and versatility to our squad.”

Prior to joining Leipzig in 2019, Nkunku played for Paris Saint-Germain and earned 10 France caps.
