Gautam Gambhir makes a lighthearted jab at MS Dhoni’s World Cup commercials

Ahead of the T20 World Cup, which begins in June of this year, cricket player Gautam Gambhir, the winner of the World Cup, made a playful jab at his former colleague, MS Dhoni. Gambhir asked to be allowed to play the World Cup without any commercial interruptions and posted an advertisement for a firm called Britannia on his ‘X’. The tweet and promotion of Britannia’s advertising were seen in light of Dhoni’s commercial for Oreo, a competitor biscuit business. Dhoni previously participated in an Oreo advertising campaign in advance of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Gambhir shared a Britannia commercial on ‘X’, showing two disappointed Indian supporters after their country’s November 19 World Cup loss to Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. They conveyed their dissatisfaction and demanded that the game’s Indian celebrities be the only thing on screen, with no commercials. 2024 IPL: Complete coverage

“I understand the pressure and the joy since I participated in and won the World Cup. The only thing that matters to the 140 crore Indians holding their breath is winning the World Cup! So, gentlemen, please stop adding twists. Turn off the advertisement. “Let the boys play,” Gambhir said in the post’s caption. The promotional message was a subtle and cunning jab at Dhoni, who worked with Oreo on a project before the ODI World Cup.

DHONI’S WORLD CUP advertisement for Oreo?
Notably, Dhoni participated in a similar marketing initiative before the 2022 T20 World Cup. In a novel attempt to bring back the magic of 2011, Dhoni supported the cookie brand. The #BringBack2011 campaign, which included Dhoni and his daughter Ziva Dhoni, who inked her maiden endorsement agreement, was intended to elicit good humor among cricket-loving Indians.

Dhoni said in the advertisement that Oreo was introduced in 2011, and that year turned out to be fortunate for India as the Dhoni-led team won the World Cup on April 2. Nevertheless, in the T20 World Cup semifinal, India was defeated by England. The biscuit business took note of this and used the phrase “matt bol” in its ODI World Cup promotion. It included avoiding outside distractions and refraining from forecasting.

“Pay close attention while I speak. We won’t be talking about India’s prospects in the World Cup. You know what occurs when something is the subject of so much hype?” Dhoni said in the commercial.

Nevertheless, after winning ten straight games to get to the championship game, India was unable to raise the coveted trophy. Dhoni and Gambhir played a significant role in India’s World Cup victory. Gambhir scored 97 runs in the final match against Sri Lanka, while Dhoni finished undefeated at 91 to help India win the cup for the first time in 28 years.
