In the India Open Final, world champions Min Hyuk-Seung Jae defeat Chirag Shetty-Satwiksairaj Rankireddy

On Sunday, January 21, at the India Open final in New Delhi, the victorious Indian team of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy were heartbrokenly defeated despite winning the silver medal. The Republic of Korea’s Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae, the current world champions, defeated the Chirag-Satwik combo 21-15, 11-21, 18-21 to take second place.

It was Chirag-second Satwik’s participation in the badminton final of 2024, after a week-long defeat to the World No. 1 Chinese duo of Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang in the Malaysia Open summit match. Chirag and Satwik started the match on Sunday by counterattacking in badminton, and they won the first set in only eighteen minutes.

The score was practically even at halftime, with India leading the Korean team 11–9. However, the Korean team quickly increased their advantage to 19–13, winning the first game. In the second game, the situation was almost the reverse, with Min Hyuk and Seung Jae pushing back and making the Indian pair make mistakes. The pair had prevailed over this same combination in the Malaysia Open semifinal last week, but not this time around as the Koreans quickly built an 18-8 advantage to take the second game.

In the decisive match, Min Hyuk and Seung Jae kept up their impressive play, leading 11-6 at the half until the Indians rallied. Even though Chirag and Satwik scored four straight points to close the deficit, the Koreans were still in the lead and went on to win the match 21–18, leading by three points.
