Indian men’s team wins bronze in the Asian TT Championship, and two doubles pairs go to the quarterfinals

Sutirtha Mukherjee of India defeated higher-ranked Szu-Yu Chen on Thursday to go on to the round of 32 of the Asian Table Tennis Championships.

The world number 104 defeated the 40th-ranked Chen of Chinese Taipei in a round-of-64 match after losing the first game, 10-12, 11-8, 11-7, and 11-7.

Manika Batra, the top-ranked player from India, easily defeated Jinnipa Sawettabut, who was from Thailand, in another round-of-64 match.

Ayhika Mukherjee beat Suwal Sikka of Nepal. She defeated her opponents 11-2, 11-0, and 11-1 to progress in the match.

Sreeja Akula, another Indian contender, lost 5-11, 6-11, and 9-11 against Mima Ito, the eighth-ranked player in the world.

Chinese player Chen Meng defeated Diya Chitale by scores of 11-3, 11-6, and 11-8 to progress to the round of 32.

Abdulaziz Anorboev and Kutbidillo Teshaboev of Uzbekistan were beaten by Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah to advance to the men’s doubles quarterfinals.

Ayhika and Sutirtha advanced to the round of eight in the women’s doubles by defeating Kazakhstan’s Angelina Romanovskaya and Sarvinoz Mirkadirova 11-1, 13-11, 10-12, and 11-7.

In the team competitions, the Indian men finished third.
