IPL Franchises Gather Player Passports in Advance of ECI Announcement of General Elections

A day before the Election Commission of India (ECI) revealed the dates of the next general elections, certain steps taken by Indian Premier League (IPL) stakeholders sparked rumors that the T20 league may be relocated outside of India due to the election schedule.

In case the IPL’s second phase is moved outside of India owing to general elections, a few IPL teams have already obtained the passports of their players.

The league would only be held in India, according to sources inside the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The franchises have gathered the passports, according to BCCI sources, as a preventative step against potential validity problems in the event of any last-minute alterations.

At Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, the defending champion Chennai Super Kings will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first leg of the IPL on March 22.

Before the game began, there was talk that the 2024 Indian Premier League would be relocated outside of India due to the general elections, as they have in the past. The BCCI did, however, go on to provide the schedule for the 2024 IPL’s first leg.
