IPL2024: The management of CSK’s pacer, Matheesha Pathirana, declares him fit

Matheesha Pathirana, a fast bowler for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has been cleared to compete in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024. Amila Kalugalage, the pacer’s manager, provided an update on Pathirana via his official “X” account.

The response to the query, “Where’s Pathirana?” He is capable of hurling thunderballs. Prepare yourself. At last, meet the legend,” wrote Kalugalage on Friday, March 22.

Prior to this, Pathirana hurt his hamstring in the Sri Lankan team’s ODI series against Bangladesh. He missed the third game of the series due to a Grade 1 hamstring strain.

Only after receiving approval from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is Pathirana anticipated to report to the CSK camp. The right-arm pacer may miss the first two to three games of the forthcoming T20 competition, according to earlier reports.

The importance of Matheesha Pathirana to CSK
Pathirana was a key member of the Super Kings’ championship-winning team the previous season. The teenage player took 19 wickets at an economy rate of 8 in 12 games. He concluded with the third-highest number of wickets for CSK, after only Ravindra Jadeja (20) and Tushar Deshpande (21).

He was mostly trusted by Dhoni to bowl in the last overs, and he delivered for his side. With his deft change of speed, Pathirana can outsmart hitters and deliver precision yorkers. He was utilized by Dhoni in the last overs, when he bowled really accurately.

Should Pathirana be sidelined, Mustafizur Rahman of CSK, who sold for INR 2 crore at auction, is a suitable stand-in. Before joining the Super Kings, Mustafizur was a player for the Delhi Capitals (DC), Mumbai Indians (MI), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

At Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, CSK will begin their IPL 2024 campaign against the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
