Mike Hesson Reflects on Disappointment as the RCB Journey Comes to an End

The tenures of Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar as head coaches of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) came to an end on Friday with the hiring of the very experienced Andy Flower. Both Hesson, the director of cricket operations, and Bangar, the head coach, had contract extensions in September, but the club elected to split ways with both.

Hesson thanked the RCB fans in a touching Instagram message, and he also praised the team’s owners for providing him the opportunity.

Hesson expressed his disappointment at not being able to guide the squad to the coveted IPL title. He also wished Flower, the new head coach, the best.

“Despite making three playoff appearances in the last four seasons, we were unable to win the elusive trophy that I, along with many other players, support staff, and amazing fans, so desperately desired.” “While I’m sad to be leaving RCB, I have some very fond memories working with great people both on and off the field,” he captioned a post.

“I’d like to thank the management for this opportunity and wish RCB and its new coaching staff the best of luck.” Finally, he thanked the fantastic RCB supporters, “you are unwavering in your support and passion for the team and made me feel at home,” he said.

Flower joins RCB after guiding the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to the playoffs in consecutive seasons. He has also previously coached Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings).

Flower expressed optimism about guiding the RCB to new heights in the IPL 2024 in reaction to his promotion.

“I am overjoyed to be joining RCB. “I recognize the efforts of Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar, two coaches I admire, and I look forward to the challenge of taking RCB to new heights,” said Flower, who coached Lucknow Supergiants in the previous two IPL seasons.
