Ranji Trophy Final: Mumbai Wins 42nd Title Behind Stars Shardul and Musheer

Ranji Trophy 2024 Final: Mumbai, headed by Ajinkya Rahane, put on a fantastic display in the Ranji Trophy 2024 final, winning a record-tying 42nd championship in the renowned competition. On Thursday, March 14, they triumphed against Vidarbha at Wankhede Stadium by a commanding score of 169 runs.

Akshay Wadkar, the captain of Vidarbha, won the toss and elected to bowl first during the match. Mumbai scored 224 runs in their first inning of play after opting to bat first. Vidarbha had a difficult time responding, scoring only 105 runs in the first half.

Mumbai’s scorers included Prithvi Shaw with 11, Bhupen Lalwani with 18, Ajinkya Rahane with 73, Shreyas Iyer with 95, Hardik Tamor with five, Musheer Khan with 136, Shardul Thakur with no runs, Tanush Kotian with 13 and Shams Mulani with an undefeated 50. But Tushar Deshpande and Shardul Thakur were out for two runs and zero runs, respectively.

With a difficult mark of 538 runs to chase, Vidarbha had a bad start. In his captain’s innings, Akshay Wadkar amassed a century. Even with his best efforts, Vidarbha could not win and was finally bowled out for 368 runs.

Ex-fast bowler Dhawal Kulkarni marked the end of his career with a major contribution to Mumbai winning another championship. His vast expertise came in very handy, especially when he secured four vital wickets in the Ranji Trophy final. Karun Nair, Atharva Taide, and Aman Mokhade were among the players dismissed by Kulkarni in the first inning. Umesh Yadav was the last player to be removed in the second inning.
