Rohan Bopanna-Matthew Ebden at the Miami Open Men’s Double Finals Spot Secured by Pair

Veteran Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden defeated Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in straight sets to get to the Miami Open men’s doubles final.

The Australian Open champions Bopanna and Ebden defeated Granollers of Spain and Zeballos of Argentina 6-1 6-4 in the semifinals on Thursday night with little effort.

After losing in the quarterfinals of the Dubai Championships and losing in the round of 32 of the Indian Wells Masters, Bopanna dropped to second place in the doubles rankings. However, this semifinal victory will help the Indian move back up to the top when the rankings are updated on Monday.

The 44-year-old Bopanna became the oldest player to ever hold the top place in the ATP rankings after winning the Australian Open.

Bopanna and Ebden will face American Austin Krajicek and Croatian Ivan Dodig in the championship match. Austin Krajicek defeated Tim Putz and Kevin Krawietz of Germany 6-4 6-7(7) 10-7 in the other semifinal.

This will be Bopanna’s 14th ATP Masters 1000 final, and his first one in Miami. In all, he will be competing in his 63rd ATP Tour level final. He has won 25 doubles championships so far.

Additionally, this will be the combination of Bopanna and Ebden’s seventh participation in an ATP Masters 1000 final.

In addition, Bopanna accomplished a unique achievement by being just the second Indian, after Leander Paes, to make it to the final of every ATP Masters tournament.
