Saarthi, a young man from Ludhiana, gives his cat another title

Saarthi Arora of Ludhiana won the Open Ludhiana Chess Championship, which was held here on April 27 and 28 by the Ludhiana District Chess Association (LDCA), adding another title to his collection.

With one round remaining, Saarthi achieved an almost flawless 3.5/4 point score (3 wins and 1 tie).

About six years ago, Saarthi, a computer engineering student at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology in Patiala, began playing chess. Last year, he created waves by placing fourth in the Open Chess Tournament, which was hosted by Learning Paths School in Mohali.

The World Chess Federation (FIDE) awarded Saarthi the title of “Arena Grandmaster” in December 2021. Saarthi is the son of a Ludhiana Additional Sessions Judge.

The World Amateur Chess Championship winner in 2018, LDCA president Arvinder Preet Singh, a skilled tutor, commended Saarthi for his constancy and conveyed his confidence that he will succeed internationally in this game of strategy.
