Veteran athlete wins two gold in the Faridkot competition

Gurminder Singh Ubhi recently won two gold medals in the Punjab Veteran Athletics Championship, which was held at Jaitu in the Faridkot region. He put up a fantastic display. On March 3, he demonstrated his dominance by taking first place in the 50- and 400-meter events for the 50-plus age category.

Gurminder, a resident of Jassowal village in Ludhiana, has made a name for himself in the veterans’ track category. At the National Masters Athletics Meet, which was hosted by the Khelo Masters Games Foundation in Delhi, he placed first in the 200-meter race and took home three medals, including two gold ones in the 400- and 800-meter events.

He started running around five years ago and enrolled in a coaching program at Guru Nanak Stadium. There, he trained under Sanjeev Sharma, the senior coach for athletics in the Punjab Sports Department.

Singh’s methodical work quickly produced results. In his first race, he placed first in the 200-meter gold, second in the 800-meter silver, and third in the 400-meter bronze in the 41st Punjab State Masters Athletics Meet, which took place at Mastuana Sahib in the Sangrur district.
