Ad Revenue ‘Associated’ with Gaza War to Be Donated by Elon Musk’s X to Israeli Hospitals and Red Cross

According to X Corp CEO Elon Musk, all advertising and subscription fees related to the conflict in Gaza would be donated to hospitals in Israel and the Red Cross/Crescent in Gaza.

“We will monitor the use of funds and work with Crescent/Red Cross.” We welcome better suggestions. In answer to a user’s query regarding how X would make sure the money does not go to Hamas, he said, “We should care about the innocent regardless of race, creed, religion, or anything else.”

This occurs one day after American organization Media Matters was sued by Musk’s X Corp for allegedly scaring away advertisers from the once-named Twitter platform by falsely claiming that it was full of anti-Semitic material. The lawsuit follows the high-profile businesses who halted their X advertising last week, including Apple, Comcast, NBCUniversal, and IBM, after Media Matters revealed that the commercials included pro-Nazi material.

“Tricking the algorithm into thinking Media Matters wanted to view both hateful content and content from large advertisers,” is how X describes the organization’s actions. In response to an AFP question, Media Matters head Angelo Carusone said, “This is a frivolous lawsuit meant to bully X’s critics into silence.” “Media Matters hopes to prevail in court and stands by its reporting.”

According to the lawsuit, “Media Matters intentionally and maliciously created side-by-side images showing advertisers’ posts on X Corp.’s social media platform next to fringe Neo-Nazi and White Nationalist content and then presented these created images as though they were what typical X users experience.” X said that Media Matters had tricked its algorithm by only following accounts that were associated with extreme, fringe material in addition to well-known businesses.
