Ahmad Shami’s outstanding bowling in the semifinal matchup against New Zealand is praised by PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi specifically acknowledged Mohammad Shami’s outstanding bowling performance in the semi-final match against New Zealand at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium in his congratulations to the Indian squad. With seven wickets, Shami became the first Indian bowler to reach seven figures in an ODI. This helped India overcome the Kiwi challenge with ease.

Modi showered Shami with plaudits, stating that cricket fans will remember his bowling from the tournament and the semi-final for many years to come.

“Excellent individual performances have also added to the unique nature of today’s Semi Final. Cricket fans will remember Mohammad Shami’s bowling in this match and throughout the World Cup for many years to come, the Prime Minister stated in a post on X.

Rohit Sharma had won the toss and chosen to bat first before. In an important game, Rohit and Subhaman Gill gave India a great start. Following Rohit’s dismissal, Gill and Virat Kohli laid the groundwork for a substantial score. Gill departed due to cramping, and Virat was joined in the middle by Shreyas Iyer.

Virat and Iyer both reached their hundreds, and India amassed a massive 397 points. It was a particularly painful blow for Kohli since he eclipsed his hero Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI hundreds.

New Zealand’s chase of India’s 397 got off to a less than ideal start when Shami dismissed Devon Convoy in the first over of his stint. Shami sent back the in-form Rachin Ravindra in his second over, bringing the Kiwis down to 39/2 in 7.4 overs.

Then, with a menacing 181-run stand for the third wicket, Daryl Mitchell and Kane Williamson began the rebuilding process and got New Zealand back into the game.

Williamson and Mitchell were in full punish mode as they easily hit every bowler out of the park, going from 39/2 in 7.4 overs to 220/2 in 32.1 overs.

But when Rohit went back on the offensive with Shami, he didn’t let his captain down and ended the partnership that seemed to be in jeopardy. Tom Lathom, the next man, was dismissed by Shami in the same over, which turned the tide back in India’s favor.

Shami took 7/57 at the end of 9.5 overs. He also surpassed Australia’s Adam Zampa to become the World Cup’s top wicket taker.
