Akhilesh Yadav receives a summons from the CBI about illicit mining

Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, has received a summons from the CBI for an illegal mining case. A summons under section 160 CRPC has been issued. The issue concerns illicit mining that occurred between 2012 and 2016, while Akhilesh Yadav was the chief minister.

Akhilesh Yadav was summoned by the CBI to testify in this matter on February 29.

It was stated that from 2012 to 2016, governmental employees engaged in criminal conspiracy with other accused parties to permit illicit mining of minor minerals in District Hamirpur (UP). Additionally, it was claimed that they had unlawfully extended existing leases, issued new ones for the purpose of mining sand, and allowed the current leaseholders to have their periods impeded. As a result, they were accused of causing wrongful loss to the government coffers and unjustified benefit to themselves.

Additionally, it was claimed that other people were permitted to steal minor minerals, conduct illicit minor mineral excavation, and demand money from leaseholders and the drivers of the trucks carrying minor minerals. Prior to this, searches were carried out at 12 locations in the Uttar Pradesh districts of Hamirpur, Jalon, Noida, Kanpur, and Lucknow as well as in Delhi on January 5, 2019. Huge sums of money and gold were found during the searches for evidence related to illicit sand mining.
