Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi will not run for office in the 2024 Lok Sabha Election from Uttar Pradesh

Ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, prominent Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have announced that they will not be running from Uttar Pradesh. Previous rumours said that Priyanka Gandhi would run in Raebareli, the seat that Sonia Gandhi had previously held, while Rahul Gandhi would run in Amethi. Both seats were regarded as the Gandhi family’s strongholds.

Rahul Gandhi will run for office again in Wayanad
The mostly rural seat, renowned for its natural beauty and abundant biodiversity, has drawn national attention ahead of the April 26 Lok Sabha elections when the Congress chose to run Gandhi from its bastion once again.

There’s a lot of conjecture going around in political circles about whether Gandhi’s campaign in Wayanad would help the Congress win Kerala again. Gandhi’s presence in Wayanad was crucial in 2019, as he won with a commanding lead of more than four lakh votes. Gandhi, however, lost to Smriti Irani of the BJP in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, his traditional stronghold, despite this victory.

Rahul Gandhi is attacked by Smriti Irani
Union Minister Smriti Irani attacked former Congress president Rahul Gandhi harshly earlier this month, claiming that he ignored Amethi’s development throughout his mother’s government at the Centre and his colleague Akhilesh Yadav’s administration in Uttar Pradesh. Irani said that while they claimed that Amethi was part of their family, they did not uphold their familial obligations. The current Amethi MP, Irani, emphasised that Prime Minister Modi had visited Amethi in 2019 and had said that he had come to bring about change. Irani also noted that Amethi has transformed in the past five years as a result of his development activities.
