Couple Recreates Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Rimjhim Gire Sawan’ Sequence During Mumbai Rains

An elderly couple decided on a special way to commemorate their long relationship in the rain, paying a touching homage to the genuine meaning of love. This couple chose to completely replicate the famous scene from the legendary 1979 Bollywood blockbuster “Rimjhim Gire Sawan,” starring Amitabh Bachchan and Moushumi Chatterjee. The fact that they skillfully replicated the scenario amid the romantic Mumbai rains at the exact same spots where the original song was filmed makes their attempt all the more remarkable. People were in awe of their love, zeal, and excitement as soon as their video became viral.

The couple, who were apparently over 60, were seen in the viral video visiting well-known Mumbai locations including the Gateway of India and Marine Drive, perfectly imitating the actions of the performers in the original movie. From their walk down the sodden Marine Drive to their timed vehicle crossings reminiscent of Amitabh Bachchan and Moushumi Chatterjee’s sequence in “Manzil,” every aspect was painstakingly planned.

The movie was first posted on YouTube and quickly became viral after being reposted on Twitter, drawing the attention of famous people like Anand Mahindra. One of the comments on the post revealed the identities of the couple and the crew that were in charge of photographing their homage, shedding light on the people who were behind this labor of love. The message said, “Congratulations on the effort! The ‘Rimjhim Gire Sawan’ song was reshot mostly in the same areas as the original song by Shailesh Inamdaar and his wife Vandana. Anup Ringangaavkar and his wife Ankita, who are their friends, filmed it with such love and care.

The Mahindra Group Chairman afterwards re-shared the video and said, “This is rightly going viral. At the very same Mumbai locales where the iconic song “Rimjhim gire sawan” was filmed for the original movie, an elderly couple recreates the song. I salute them. They are teaching us that if we let our imaginations run wild, we can make life as lovely as we want it to be.

The couple’s ability to revitalize a cherished movie as well as this lovely homage to a bygone era of filmmaking undoubtedly moved audiences.

This city is unique. I had often considered doing this for myself. Congratulations to this pair, one person said.

Another person said, “Helps that South Bombay (as it was then) hasn’t changed much in 50 years…except the cars on the road.”

We are left with a delicious dose of nostalgia that we just can’t get enough of thanks to this recreation, which is like a potion of pure RD Burman and Kishore Kumar magic.
