Dr. David Marjot, 95, breaks the record for being the oldest Kingston University alumnus

We’ve been repeatedly told that knowledge is a pursuit that has no age limits. However, this truism became a real illustration for Dr. David Marjot. He has rewritten Kingston University’s records at the age of 95, becoming the school’s oldest graduate ever. Dr. Marjot broke the previous record, which was established more than 20 years earlier, by earning a master’s degree in contemporary European philosophy.

A touching event occurred at Kingston University’s graduation ceremony when Dr. Marjot was given a standing ovation by both his peers and the crowd. Thinking back on his achievement, he thanked the Mirror for their encouragement and emphasized the value of ongoing self-improvement at any age.

Dr. Marjot told the news source, “It was hard work.” “I was fortunate to have world-class teachers, and it was a very positive experience, but my memory is not quite what it used to be.”

Dr. Marjot emphasized the need of always pushing oneself, especially as one becomes older. Dr. Marjot made the choice to go back to school in order to help him deal with the death of his wife after 65 years of marriage. He plans to finish his PhD by the age of 102, but he is now thinking of starting a part-time program in spite of the difficulties.

Dr. Marjot, a former psychiatrist, became interested in philosophy because he was looking for intellectual stimulation. He thanked Kingston University for creating a friendly atmosphere and said the training was a great experience.

Thinking back on his choice to return to school after decades away, Dr. Marjot urged people to take advantage of educational possibilities. “Go for it if you’re interested; it’s a bit of a gamble,” he said.

Dr. Marjot’s Kingston University professor, Professor Stella Sandford, commended him for his contributions to class discussions, highlighting his depth of knowledge and life experience. She related Dr. Marjot’s moving observations on historical occurrences, which enhanced the learning atmosphere for all those there.

At the graduation ceremony, Dr. Marjot was surrounded by loved ones as he celebrated this milestone with his son and son-in-law. Archie White, who graduated from the University of Brighton in 2021 at the age of 96, holds the record for the oldest graduate in Britain, even though he is the oldest graduate at Kingston University.
