Bihar student from IIT Guwahati found dead in dorm room; suicide suspected; family demands investigation

Guwahati: In a startling occurrence, a 20-year-old student from IIT Guwahati was purportedly discovered dead in his dorm room. The dead man’s family has requested an investigation into his death, and the police said that they believe it to be a suicide.

Notably, on Wednesday night, the first-year BTech student’s body was discovered dead in his dorm room. The student’s corpse was discovered by security personnel on Wednesday night when his flatmate was gone, according to sources who spoke with NDTV.

A letter that was found in his chamber has also been submitted for forensic examination, according to the police.

The family of the dead student, who was from Bihar, has sought an investigation into his death, shocked by the situation. They also claimed that the institution was careless.

Police said that they were conducting a postmortem investigation of the corpse and assumed the student killed himself due to stress. Police said, “We are waiting on the autopsy report and looking into every avenue.”

Meanwhile, IIT Guwahati issued a statement expressing sorrow over the student’s passing and offering condolences for his passing.

“IIT Guwahati communicates the sad news of the death of a male student on campus on April 10 with great grief. We are sending the family our sincere sympathies and are making every effort to help them during this trying time. The circumstances behind this regrettable tragedy are being looked at by the police. We are thinking about the bereaved family. The statement said, “The media is requested to maintain discretion while reporting on this incident, keeping the student’s privacy and the sensitivity of this incident in consideration.”

This event occurs only three months after a fourth-year BTech student was transported unconscious to the hospital during a New Year’s celebration, when medical professionals pronounced her dead. Another student from IIT Guwahati was recently arrested on suspicion of swearing loyalty to ISIS.
