Unconstructed Bridge Collapses in Bihar’s Supaul on Camera, Leaving One Dead and Several Trapped

On Friday morning, an under-construction bridge collapsed in Supaul, Bihar, resulting in at least one fatality and nine injuries. The event happened near Maricha, between Bheja and Bakaur, when a section of a bridge that was still under construction fell over the Kosi River.

There are rumors that there are many construction workers buried under the rubble. With the assistance of local volunteers, rescue efforts have commenced while the authorities are on the scene.

The construction of the nation’s longest road bridge is under way between Bheja in the Madhubani district and Bakour in Supaul. The bridge is reportedly being constructed at a total cost of Rs 984 crore.

The reports state that the bridge’s pillars 50, 51, and 52 have fallen.

“There is one dead and nine injured.” There are rescue efforts underway. I will amend the data appropriately,” said Kaushal Kumar, the Supaul district magistrate.

The episode is uncannily identical to another catastrophe that happened on June 4, 2023, when the superstructure of the Sultanganj-Aguani Ghat bridge, which spans the Ganga River in the Bhagalpur district, collapsed.

The bridge that is now being built to connect Bhagalpur and Khagaria in Bihar collapsed twice: first on April 30, 2023, and again on June 4.
