Get to know Krishnadas Paul, the 60-year-old founder of Bisk Farm

Pursuing your aspirations has no age restrictions. Typically, individuals consider retiring when they reach fifty, but Krishnadas Paul took a different tack. He started his own business at the age of sixty, called SAJ Food, after the initials of his three children, Jayeeta, Arpan, and Sharmistha. His goal was to create biscuits without added sugar, which led to the founding of Bisk Farm in 2000. There were other obstacles in the way of the company’s notable success. Bisk Farms had financial troubles in 2004 and reported a Rs 15 crore loss. Krishnadas Paul turned his focus to India’s east. He introduced seven new types of biscuits, all with distinctive regional flavors. This calculated risk paid off, as his cookies gained enormous popularity in West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Odisha.

With time, Bisk Farms emerged as one of the leading brands in the industry. According to News18, the business took second place in Eastern India, accounting for almost 40% of the market. The company’s revenues skyrocketed to Rs 200 crore by 2008.

Sadly, Krishnadas Paul lost dead in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic’s first wave. He may be gone, but his legacy lives on. As executive chairman, his son Arpan Paul is committed to carrying on his father’s legacy and advancing the business.

The Economic Times reports that SAJ Food had a turnover of Rs 2,100 crore at the end of the 2023 fiscal year. This accomplishment solidifies its position as the nation’s top participant in the organized biscuit market.

In the Burdwan hamlet of Kamarkita, Krishnadas Paul was born. He joined his father’s selling and distribution company in 1947 after completing his legal studies. In 1974, when the five brothers broke up the family firm, Krishnadas Paul started his own business, Aparna Agency.

He began delivering goods for companies including Reckitt & Colman, Dabur, and Nestle. Then he founded Bisk Farm in 2000. Currently, Bisk Farm is the second-biggest biscuit brand in the East, behind Britannia, and operates five plants.

Anyone questioning whether it’s too late to start their dream business might find encouragement in Krishnadas Paul’s narrative. His tenacity has shown that age is irrelevant and that it is never too late to follow your aspirations.
