Factors Influencing Petroleum and Diesel Prices in India:

  1. Crude Oil Prices: As the primary raw material for petroleum and diesel production, fluctuations in crude oil prices directly impact the final cost of these fuels.
  2. Exchange Rate Dynamics: Given India’s significant reliance on crude oil imports, the exchange rate between the Indian rupee and the US dollar plays a pivotal role in determining petroleum and diesel prices.
  3. Taxation: Both central and state governments impose various taxes on petroleum and diesel, which can vary across regions, thereby influencing overall prices.
  4. Refining Costs: The expenses associated with refining crude oil into petroleum and diesel also contribute to the final pricing. Refining costs fluctuate based on factors such as the type of crude oil used and refinery efficiency.
  5. Demand Dynamics: Changes in demand for petroleum and diesel can lead to price variations. Increased demand often results in higher prices.
