Stock Market Updates: Nestle Down 2%, Nifty Above 21,700, Sensex Up 300 Points, Regaining 72K

Sensex Today: Despite weakening in the global markets, equity benchmark indexes continued to rise in Friday’s opening trades. The NSE Nifty50 gained 90 points to 21,748 and the BSE Sensex increased 300 points to 71,145.

NTPC, Wipro, M&M, and SBI drove the Sensex’s advances. Hero Moto and Bajaj Auto were the top Nifty winners.

Conversely, the few frontal drags were Cipla, Sun Pharma, Nestle, Britannia, and IndusInd Bank.

The wider markets were solid as well. The BSE SmallCap and MidCap indexes increased to around 0.6%.

Worldwide Cues

As predictions for rapid Federal Reserve rate cuts were dialed back, Asian markets stumbled on Friday, leaving global equities on course to end a nine-week winning run. Meanwhile, the dollar was headed for its biggest weekly gain since mid-July.

Friday saw a rise in Tokyo equities as traders anticipated the release of US employment data later in the day. The yen’s depreciation against the dollar also helped exporter shares.The overall Topix index increased by 0.40 percent, or 9.57 points, to 2,388.36, while the Nikkei 225 gained 0.33 percent, or 109.23 points, to 33,397.52 at the outset.

The Dow Jones Industrial managed to pull off a victory on the strength of banking companies and positive employment statistics, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite ended negative on Thursday, continuing their losing run that began in 2024.
