According to Vivek Gomber, working on Lootere alongside Hansal and Jai Mehta was a “no-brainer” for him | Exclusive

In the suspenseful online serial Lootere, Vivek Gomber portrays the cunning businessman Vikrant Gandhi. The plot of the Disney+ Hotstar series, which was written by Hansal Mehta and directed by his son Jai Mehta, centers around a commerce ship that Somali pirates take over. In an exclusive interview with DNA, Vivek Gomber discussed his decision to work on Lootere, his collaborations with Hansal and Jai Mehta, and the difficulties the cast and crew had filming the program on the South African coast.

In the last ten years, Vivek has been in a limited number of programs and series, such as Court, Sir, and A Suitabe Boy, indicating his careful approach to his work. He added, “As an actor, I am still not in a position to choose many things,” in response to our question about what motivated him to chose Lootere. I went through a few rounds of tryouts with Jai (director Mehta) and other actors after receiving a call for the program, and there were also appearance tests. I was confirmed after three or four months of back and forth, which is how I was hired. I was genuinely chosen by them. My desire to undertake it grew as I learned more about it. It was an obvious choice because of Hansal Sir and Jai’s involvement and their track record as creators over the last several years,” he said.

Vivek said that working with Hansal and Jai Mehta was a terrific experience. Here, it was abundantly evident that Hansal sir was running the show while Jai was in charge as director. They were very explicit about the changes they intended to make, and clarity instills a great deal of trust. Many times you believe the concept is amazing, but you never know who will end up making it. In this case, all I had to worry about was making sure I was doing my job and that everything around us was taken care of. The Court star said, “Having them around was quite a blessing.”

“It was really tough,” Vivek said of his experience filming Lootere in Africa during the Covid-19 epidemic. When we first began filming, Hansal sir was there. However, he had to return to India for business, thus Covid occurred. So, it was very difficult. That was where he was helping us. The logistical aspects of having a staff on the go and individuals flying in and out suffered greatly. Jai performed a fantastic job in South Africa, preventing any of the performers from sensing the kind of pressure they must have been under. It’s wonderful that we have captains with their level of expertise.

In addition to Vivek Gomber, Rajat Kapoor, Amruta Khanvilkar, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Aamir Ali, and Martial Batchamen Tchana are also featured in Lootere. Six of the eight episodes of the program are already available to watch onDisney+ Hotstar, and the last two will be available on Fridays starting next week.
