Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan, who hosts the renowned quiz program Kaun Banega Crorepati, asked a question about his former co-star Helen recently. Lalit Kumar, a contestant, was only able to respond with ₹12,50,000 after failing to answer the question for ₹25 lakh. “Which of these actresses was born in Myanmar and later escaped with her family to India during the Second World War?” Amitabh Bachchan posed this question to Lalit. Sulochana, Suraiya, Nadira, and Helen were the choices. Lalit gave up on the game when he was unable to respond to the question, and Amitabh then told him that Helen was the right response.

Helen and her family fled what was then known as Burma, or Myanmar. They had to journey repeatedly over kilometers of wilderness, across rivers, mountains, and woods, in order to escape and reach India. She had to do this in 1943 to get away from the Japanese control of Burma. She rose to fame as an actor in our field. Amitabh said, “One would be charmed watching her dance.

The superstar said that he had collaborated with Helen on a few movies. “I was fortunate enough to collaborate with her on two or three movies. She is a lady of kindness and compassion. She used to take care of everyone. We hope she continues to be well. She is now elderly. Amitabh is 81 years old, and Helen is 85. They have collaborated on movies like Don, Amar Akbar Anthony, Mohabbatein, The Great Gambler, and Ram Balram.

They were included in the iconic action picture Don (1978) directed by Chandra Barot, in the song Yeh Mera Dil Yaar Ka Diwana by Asha Bhosle. In the love film, Mohabbatein (2001) starring Aditya Chopra, the couple’s last appearance was as the principal of two nearby high schools.

The next show Helen will appear in is Brown, a thriller starring Abhinay Deo. She is the stepmother of actor Salman Khan and the wife of seasoned screenwriter Salim Khan.
