30 injured, 7 dead in a vehicle explosion in a Syrian town

Residents and rescuers in the rebel-held Syrian town of Azaz, near the Turkish border said that a vehicle explosion on Saturday left at least seven people dead and thirty wounded.

They said that after breaking the fast during the Muslim month of Ramadan, the bomb happened during prime time for late-night shopping.

No one took instant credit for anything.

After being struck by a vehicle explosion more than two years ago, the town, which is inhabited by Arabs and is controlled by Syrian opposition groups opposed to Syrian President Bashar al Assad and supported by Turkey, has been mostly calm.

In recent years, explosions that exploded in densely populated civilian areas have repeatedly struck major cities in the northwest border region.

People who live in the mostly Arab-populated, rebel-held northwest have long had suspicions about the Kurdish-led YPG, which occupies vast regions of northeast Syria and the region east of the Euphrates. Some accuse Assad-supporting organizations. Such assertions have long been refuted by YPG operators.
