A Greek island close to Athens is trembling, but there are no reports of significant damage or casualties

Early on Friday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 shook an island close to Athens, although no severe damage or casualties were immediately reported by local authorities.

Ninety kilometers north of Athens, on the island of Evia, an earthquake under the town of Mantoudi caused seismic activity that was noticed in the Greek capital.

Authorities cautioned locals to stay away from historic structures and highways with a history of rockslides.

There were aftershocks up to magnitude 3.7 following the earthquake, according to the Athens Geodynamic Institute.

The majority of Greece’s earthquakes occur underwater.
