Actor Julian Sands vanished five months ago in Southern California; human remains were discovered there

According to the BBC, human remains have been discovered in the Southern California region where British actor Julian Sands was last seen five months ago.

According to a statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office, California hikers who had discovered human remains in the Mount Baldy wilderness, more than 40 miles northeast of Los Angeles, had gotten in touch with them about 10 a.m. local time on Saturday.

The coroner’s office has received the remains for identification, according to the agency. It is anticipated that the identifying procedure will take one week.

Notably, the 65-year-old actor was trekking in the Baldy Bowl region of the San Gabriel Mountains on Friday evening, January 13, when his wife reported him missing, according to Variety. Skiers, climbers, and hikers all frequent the Baldy Bowl, which is located below the Mount Baldy ski resort and is approximately 50 miles northeast of Los Angeles.

An initial search was conducted there, but ground troops were withdrawn a day later because of avalanche dangers and bad path conditions. The ninth official search for Sands since his disappearance on June 17 ended in failure as well, according to the police.

“Despite the recent warming, there are still impassable areas of the mountain owing to severe alpine conditions. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office said last week that there are several locations with steep terrain and ravines that still have more than 10 feet of ice and snow.

The Sands family released a statement last week in which they expressed their appreciation for the continuing search and rescue operations.

“The search teams and coordinators that put in so much effort to locate Julian deserve our sincere gratitude. We continue to cherish our memories of Julian as a great husband, father, adventurer, patron of the humanities and the natural world, as well as a singular and collaborative performer, they said.

Born in England, Sands relocated to California in the 1980s to seek a career in Hollywood after the success of the period romance ”A Room with a View,” in which he was paired with Helena Bonham Carter as the primary character.

Additionally, he played the son of Satan in the 1989 supernatural thrillers “Warlock” and “Warlock: The Armageddon.” Supporting parts in “The Killing Fields,” “Arachnophobia,” and “Leaving Las Vegas” are among her other cinematic credits.
