In the Gaza Strip, three journalists were wounded by Israeli bombardment

According to Palestinian reports, an Israeli bombardment near the Nusseirat refugee camp in central Gaza wounded at least three Palestinian journalists.

Reporters covering events in the Nusseirat camp were hit by a shell launched by Israeli artillery, according to eyewitnesses who spoke with the Xinhua news agency on Friday.

According to the Xinhua news agency, the Israeli army declared the commencement of a surprise military operation on the fringes of the Nusseirat camp on Thursday.

The three wounded journalists arrived to the Shuhada al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, according to medical sources, which were reported by Xinhua news agency. Two of them had significant injuries, one of them having his right foot amputated and several shrapnel wounds throughout his body.

The Israeli army remained silent on the event.

The three journalists were targeted by the Israeli army while they were wearing vests with the obvious “Press” marks on them, according to a statement released by the government media office, which is managed by Hamas.

Targeting media crews as part of a string of serious crimes against Palestinian journalists was deemed “a crime” in the statement.

As “deliberate and intentional in a clear message to intimidate and threaten them in an attempt to silence the truth,” the statement denounced the Israeli army’s targeting of media crews.

“Condemn this crime and pursue the occupation in international forums and courts for its crimes against journalists and media professionals,” was the demand sent to the International Federation of Journalists.

Since October 7 of last year, the Israeli army has attacked journalists as they were reporting on events during the continuing conflict. This is not the first time.

Data from the Gaza government media office shows that throughout the last six months, Israeli assaults on the Gaza Strip have resulted in the deaths of around 140 journalists.
