Israel is happy that a marine route has opened to provide supplies to Gaza

Israel said that it “welcomed” the opening of the naval route between Cyprus and the Gaza Strip, which is intended to provide assistance to the beleaguered Palestinian enclave. Speaking in a statement on Friday, Israeli Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lior Haiat said, “The Cypriot initiative will allow the increase of humanitarian aid to Gaza,” but he did not indicate when the first cargo would arrive. According to Haiat, Israel would “conduct security checks in accordance with Israeli standards” to regulate the admission of supplies into Gaza.

According to a news statement from the Cypriot Interior Ministry, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed optimism that the maritime corridor for delivering humanitarian supplies to Gaza will open this Sunday while on a visit to the Cypriot port of Larnaca on Friday.

The EU Chief said that the first pilot operation for the maritime corridor, which was proposed by Cyprus, the EU, the UAE, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Britain, and the US, will begin on Friday. Aid must be sent to Gaza immediately because, since Israel began a massive attack there, the humanitarian situation in the territory has become worse. The Health Ministry, which is managed by Hamas, reports that over 30,800 people have died in Gaza as a result of the Israeli onslaught, the majority of them civilians.
