Rejecting the idea of power sharing, Bilawal Bhutto announces Zardari as the PPP’s presidential nominee

Karachi: Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, the chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), said that he has rejected a plan to share power between the PML-N and the PPP, which would have allowed both parties to hold the prime minister’s office. According to Dawn, Bilawal made it clear that the PPP will field his father, former president Asif Ali Zardari, as its nominee for president.

Speaking during a Yaum-i-Tashakur rally in Thatta to celebrate the PPP’s win in the Sindh elections, Bilawal provided details on the discussions with the PML-N. He said that the PML-N put out a time-sharing plan in which they would lead the government for three years and the PPP would take over for the last two. Nevertheless, Bilawal turned down this proposal, highlighting his desire to become prime minister based on popular votes.

“I declined this. I expressed my desire to not have such a role as prime minister. During the event, Bilawal said, “If I become prime minister, it will be after the people of Pakistan elect me.”
Ishaq Dar, the head of the PML-N, cautioned against making any hasty announcements on talks between the political parties hoping to form the next government, even in light of Bilawal’s public disclosure. While acknowledging that Bilawal had brought up the time-sharing formula, Dar pointed out that this was but one part of the conversation and that other formulae may also be taken into account.

Bilawal gave a statement summarizing the PPP’s position, saying that the party would proceed with candidates who asked for their support but would not run for ministry. He announced that Asif Ali Zardari will be the PPP’s presidential candidate, highlighting Zardari’s contribution to reducing political tensions and bringing peace back to both the national and local levels.

“We have determined that Zardari will be our presidential candidate in order to contain the fire that is raging across the nation. Bilawal said, emphasizing the need for a political emphasis on solving the issues faced by the people rather than personal advantages. “And when he takes up the post, he will put out this fire and save the center and the provinces,” the politician said.

Concerning the political and economic divide in society, Bilawal called on politicians and political parties to put the needs of the people first. He said that a PPP leader was defeated by a candidate supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and promised to compile election complaints from party members throughout the country and handle them via the proper procedures.
